Christmas Decor

The most wonderful time of the year is nearly upon us, it's time to start thinking about how you would like your homes to look and feel this Christmas. Do you follow trends or prefer to stay with the timeless traditional classics?

Many of us associate happy memories with the Christmas holidays, you feel joy and excitement because you remember previous Christmas celebrations from childhood right up to the present time. The feeling of Christmas is so special because as you get older you then get to share the magic of Christmas all over again with your own Children, Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews etc. Christmas through the eyes of a child is truly magical.

The feeling of Christmas is different to each of us because we all hold our own personal memories to it.

"Christmas Isn't A Season, It's A Feeling"

Christmas is a time for Joy and celebration, spending time with loved ones, exchanging gifts and best of all quality time with those we love most.

Eat, drink and be merry as they say, we couldn't agree more.

Where To Start?

Select your chosen colour scheme or theme to kick start your imagination. Let's say you have chosen a Candy Cane themed tree with all the candy canes your tree can hold on to, or maybe you've decided on a stunning Winter Wonderland feel with rustic pieces and lots of gorgeous woods, or have you opted for a Grinch themed spectacular and gone wild and fun with it? With a theme set in mind the foundation to build on is there along with the colours and how you would like your Christmas decor to look and feel. So now get those baubles ready and begin creating the magic of bringing those visuals of yours to life.

Whether you opt for a sleek elegant minimalist tree or a more colourful vibrant, and fussy tree there is no wrong or right way of doing it, just have fun!

Wrapping Gifts

I don't know too many people who get overly excited with the concept of wrapping gifts, it can be quite a long and repetitive process especially if you have a big family.

TIP: Co-ordinate wrapping paper to align with your chosen theme or colours to create a prettier overall look under the tree.

If you really don't like wrapping gifts at all why not purchase some lovely Christmas gift boxes instead.

Maybe choose to wrap your gifts over the course of a few days. I find this to be a little more pleasant than being bombarded with everything all at once. Pour yourself some Mulled Wine or a lovely warm Hot Chocolate, pop on your favourite Christmas album and sing away to your hearts content, this will be sure to get you in the festive spirit whilst you wrap your lovely gifts.

Real Or Fake Christmas Tree?

This always creates a lot of debate. Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below!

For many years our family had chosen to have a real Christmas tree, our tradition was going along to our favourite garden centre searching for that one stand out Christmas tree full of life, colour and gorgeous scent.

Having a real tree can be extremely helpful to those who may not have a lot of storage space at home so this way it doesn't get in the way of everyday living.

"Did you know it takes around 15 years to grow the average Christmas Tree"

Since moving into our new home the last couple of years we have swapped out the real tree for a very realistic fake one, and because we now have a thick carpet the thought of finding endless wilted pine needles hidden and resurfacing for months to come isn't overly appealing.

Financially it also helps families as Christmas trees aren't especially cheap so having the extra money to spend on other things this time of year is a helpful and welcomed feeling to many people. The biggest thing a fake tree can't give you in our opinion is its distinctive smell.

Overall it just depends on your current surroundings, storage space and which works best for you and your family at the time, you can always fluctuate between the two if you enjoy both when you can.

To help feel the void of a real gorgeous smelling Christmas tree Sweet Decor  found a wonderful scented Christmas Tree wax melt which works an absolute treat.

When Should The Decs Go Up?

When scrolling through peoples social media accounts I see many people choosing to put their decorations up as early as the start of November. Some comment "it's too early" and others say "go for it" You get the judge and jury out in full force with this one don't you?

So when is the right time to get those decorations out of storage and immerse yourself fully into the festive Christmas spirit? At Sweet Decor we believe you should do exactly what makes you the happiest, it's that simple.

If you're following tradition then this dictates that Christmas trees should be put up at the beginning of Advent, which begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas.

"It's your home so if it makes you happy then we say go for it!"

Storage

Tip: Store your decorations in transparent storage boxes and label them, trust me you'll thank us later.

Be smart and organised when it comes to storing your decorations.

Sweet Decor are a huge fan of labels and organisation it just makes life so much easier, It doesn't need to be a lengthly task simply do it as you go along.

When packing away your decorations simply arrange and label them in a way so that next year you'll be thankful you did it.

Transparent boxes are recommended this way you can effortlessly see what's inside without having to pull everything out of storage just to find what you're looking for. Organisation is key and may I add extremely satisfying.
