Have you ever thought about it but unsure on where to start?
Either way let Sweet Decor help you bring your visions to life, with useful tips and ideas on how to get your home ready for the gorgeous Autumn Season 🍂
With Autumn being a seasonal favourite for many of us adding some autumnal touches around the home can be a pleasant change of scenery.
Styling your home for autumn creates a warm, cosy and welcoming feeling that you can enjoy all season round.
I personally love a more simple and calming home styling energy that's not to cluttered, and most importantly practical for everyday living.
Let's talk through ways you can make subtle autumnal changes throughout your home creating that charming, cosy and calming feeling you can admire all season long.
WHERE TO START?
A gorgeous autumn wreath is the perfect place to start, it sets the mood right before you even enter your home. It's equally a lovely visual for guests arriving and general people passing by. A wreath is welcoming and shows you're a home which embraces the present season.
Autumn is the season to introduce those warmer tones into your home. Oranges, browns, neutrals and earthy tones really look the part.
People often say to me
"I'd love to style my home but I have no idea what to do"
"I have no space to do anything."
"I don't have the time to do it"
I'm here to assure you that you most definitely can take on this task if you really want to. It's simply in the organisation and not feeling overwhelmed by it, focus on making it an enjoyable experience. I genuinely look forward to changing my decor around and find it very theraputic.
Small styling areas can have a great impact and literally take minutes to create, don't feel like you have to produce huge display's to make a space look special, I love the saying "less is more".
COFFEE TABLE
Coffee table centre pieces are a brilliant place to add some decor, they give all the autumnal feels from the minute you enter the room.
If you don't own a coffee table but have side tables or shelving simply use those instead just add less pieces, for e.g I'd simplify the image shown below to say just one or two pumpkins and a candle/diffuser slightly raised to create a little height.
It will look just as pretty and create a lovely autumn feel. It's all about working well within the spaces you have around you.
You can use styling trays on your table to begin with choose something that will suit your current decor and then build from there. I also love to use books they're a fantastic way to create height. You could have a vase with artificial flowers as your centre piece and then add some other autumn pieces around it too.
Pumpkins, Ornaments, Coasters, leaves, candles and diffusers are all great additions.
FIREPLACE DECOR
If you have a fireplace then this is another exciting space to capture the heart of the season. You can use wreaths, garlands, lights, ornaments, styling trays, the choice is yours. Most importantly have fun with it and create something you love.
I have a small gap between my TV on the wall and the top of my fireplace, so I simply added a cute pumpkin trio to admire. Finish off the look with a garland or some lights to add some colour, it's so simple takes hardly no time to do and looks stunning.
SCENTS
Capture the homely autumn feels with the right scents.
What reminds you of autumn and makes you feel good?
The minute you enter any home the first thing to greet you is the smell and in your own home that can instantly make you feel content, relaxed and tranquil.
I have scents in every single room throughout my home, I can't get enough of them, they smell lovely, look pretty and fill empty spaces perfectly.
BED STYLING
The absolute go to for showcasing a captivating visual to the centre of your bed, simply invest in a rattan basket and add your favourite autumn decor.
I change mine every season it really elevates the room and brings an elegance and charm to your bedroom decor.
You can also change your bedding, pillows and throws. It really is a great area to style all year round, and on the plus side you're not using up any additional space just simply utilising what's already there in front of you.
DINING TABLE CENTRE PIECE
If you have a dining table this is another ideal place to add seasonal decor. Having an attractive centre piece for the dining table not only looks beautiful but gives you all the seasonal feels you need.
In our home we have a larger dining table which seats up to 6 people, so I do go a little bigger with the centre piece here.
If you prefer to display your table for the full dining experience which you can leave set for weeks, then start with a table runner and create a centre piece down the centre of the table with your chosen colours. I love to use garlands and glass bowls filled with my own creations, big vases, candles and ornaments create a peaceful ambience, it looks absolutely beautiful.
My favourite colours to use for autumn dining are greens, browns and creams, that being said I do like to explore and keep an open mind to resist becoming complacent.
Family dinners are a big thing in our home we love to eat together, it's one of my personal favourite times in the day (even when someone is complaining about the food choice that evening), so of course we need a gorgeous centre piece to compliment our dining time.
FREE ADDITIONAL SPACE
If you have any free space across your home however big or small you can use styling trays, seasonal displays, dried flowers, vases, or candles all these things can transform a room instantly.
I invested in a glass table to fill a vacant corner in my kitchen which I knew I wanted to use for seasonal decor throughout the year. It's one of my favourite areas to be creative and bring my visuals to life.
GARDEN
If you have a garden space then don't leave it behind. This is the ideal space to embrace this season. If you have a seating area all you need are your cosy blankets, a warm hot chocolate, toasty marshmallows, a little background music and relax under the stars.
You can add to your garden decor with lanterns, candles, cushions and blankets to set the mood and appreciate being outside on those milder autumn evenings.
You may not have a seating area available at this time or even if you do why not opt for a grand blanket laid out on the grass, some comfy pillows, candle lit lanterns and lay under the stars to unwind.
WALL ART & PLAQUES
Swap out those summer pastels for more earthy tones to create a warm cosy atmosphere, this will always keeps your home feeling fresh and seasonal with minimal effort or time needed. Unhook the summer wall art and hang the autumn art in its place for an instant glow up.
Plaques are even easier as they stand alone or rest against the wall making it effortless to move them around they really compliment areas needing that little finishing touch. Plaques are brilliant to use across your home all year round and are a firm favourite in my home.
FINAL THOUGHTS....
When styling your home simply work to size, I believe in less is more but everyone is different and some prefer to go much bigger and that's ok too it's all personal preference.
Whichever you decide to do just try not to let your decor dominate your space you want it to look effortless and natural like it fits, and to be suitable for everyday living.
Have fun and experiment with different looks, move things around until it feels right for you.
One of my favourite ways to see if something looks good is to take a quick photo on my phone and see if need to change anything, this gives me clear clarification.
You will eventually get the feeling of "I love It" and you'll know your done.
